First cheap edition. The book is reasonably firmly bound in light blue cloth, lettered and patterned in darker blue, the corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, the spine is a little faded and the boards slightly marked. The text block is slightly toned, foxed and dusty with a neatly written name, address and date to the front endpaper. The dust jacket with the striking Holloway illustration is the original, it is slightly stained, faded and grubby with minor loss and closed tears to the edges. From an author most famous for his lost race fantasy – The Last Lemurian – comes a chilling supernatural tale: a strong, self-willed man attempts to possess a beautiful young woman by both fair means and foul, loses all and dies, only to take possession of a weaker man through whom he wreaks vengeance and fulfils the promises he made when alive. Uncommon in any format, but particularly so in this crudely, but splendidly sinisterly illustrated dust jacket.
