First edition. Signed by Ransome to the half-title page. The book is firmly bound in clean, slightly bumped and rubbed, green cloth lettered in gilt and blind. The text block is slightly foxed, toned and dusty. The dust jacket is the original and not price clipped, it is slightly toned and grubby, more so to the spine, with chips and closed tears to the edges and the fold of the front flap becoming fragile. The eighth book in the Swallows and Amazons series and one of the best, with some superb dramatic episodes, perhaps the best being that in which Roger, Titty, Bridget (the ship’s baby) and Sinbad the cat have a narrow escape from drowning. Uncommon signed.
