First trade edition. Second issue, without the foreword by Victor Gollancz and no mention of it on the title page. Of the first print run of 2150 it is conjectured that only 150 have the foreword, which was left in due to “technical” issues, but the technical issues were evidently resolved and the vast majority went out without the Foreword as intended. The book is firmly bound in the publisher’s blue cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, the extremities are somewhat bumped and rubbed with some minor marking and some nicks to the cloth. The text block is rather age toned and quite foxed. The dust jacket is the original, it has been restored to the bottom of the spine where there was slightly more than an inch of loss, also a smaller area to the top of the spine which extended a little onto the front and rear panels, it is slightly grubby and toned with minor marks, but presents reasonably well. An uncommon find in the dust jacket.
