First edition thus. First published in 1911, this is the first printing of the “Completely revised” edition and, importantly, the first to feature Tolkien’s introduction. The book is reasonably firmly bound in slightly grubby and bumped orange cloth, lettered in black, there is a superficial split to the cloth at the join with the rear board. The text block is toned with minor foxing, some annotations in pencil and a neatly written name to the front endpaper. An uncommon find.
