Product Description

First edition. The book is reasonably firmly bound in the publisher’s red cloth, lettered and illustrated in gilt, black and cream, the extremities are bumped and rubbed but the boards are generally clean. The text block is slightly toned, foxed and dusty, with a W. H. Smith’s blind-stamp to the front endpaper and slight cracking at points. A rather well written and highly entertaining example of late Victorian / early Edwardian detective fiction, from the able pen of Major Griffiths, a man of wide experience and learning, noted for his work as a historian of the British prison system.
