First edition. The book is firmly bound in clean black cloth, lettered in bright gilt to the spine, the extremities are slightly bumped and rubbed. The text block is toned and slightly stained. The dust jacket is the original and correctly priced at 7/6 to the spine, it is slightly grubby and stained with minor chips and short closed tears to the edges. An interesting collection of tales of the bible told in the language of the deep south from an African-American perspective and famously adapted for stage and film under the title Green Pastures. The U.K. edition is uncommon, particularly with the C. W. Bacon designed dust jacket.
