As members of both the ABA and the PBFA, J&M Books are able and qualified to provide a service for probate and insurance valuations for old books, including rare, collectable and generally secondhand books from early antiquariana to 20th century modern first editions and children’s books. We charge an hourly rate for this service*, for which clients will receive:
1. a free initial estimate in advance based on the provision of some basic information as to the nature and extent of the book/s or collection in question
2. a full, printed and undersigned estimate with breakdown indicating values either individually or as groups based on theme, author or similar, whichever best suits the nature of the books present and the requirements of the valuation
3. confidence in the knowledge that the evaluation has been undertaken by a member of the leading book trade associations (Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association and Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association) in the UK, and has been provided under the standards and codes of practice these associations expect and require from all their members
Of course we are always happy to offer a more casual and absolutely free assessment of any book or collection that you are contemplating selling.
